BUSINESSMEN in Selangor will face a RM1,000 fine if they use polystyrene packages come January 2017.
The fine comes following the new policy set by the state government that bans the use of polystyrene and promotes reduced plastic bag usage next year. The ban will take effect on Jan 1.
Selangor State Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Elizabeth Wong said the fine was the standard amount for any breach of licence condition.
She said several additional conditions had been added to the by-laws to incorporate the new ruling.
“The maximum fine is RM1,000 and shoppers will be charged a minimum of 20sen for single-use plastic bags. ....READ MORE ......

MBPJ gets serious about recycling

PETALING Jaya City Council (MBPJ) plans to expand its recycling programme next year to ensure the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) concept is fully practised.
Petaling Jaya mayor Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain said to ensure the recycling rate increases from 10% to 22% next year, MBPJ would extend the waste separation programme throughout the city, especially in residential areas.

He said the generated waste could be used optimally as raw material for industrial activities or for production of reusable products.
“Starting next year, MBPJ will equip each household in Petaling Jaya with a 120l-capacity rubbish bin for free.  READ MORE ........

Recognition from MBPJ for recycling in SS20

Dear SS20 Central Zone residents,
Thank you for your participation and support of the MBPJ Single Stream Waste Management Pilot Project. Your effort was recognized by MBPJ at the Petaling Jaya Waste Summit 2016 on 5th Dec 2016 held at the MBPJ Civic Hall.
We were presented with an award and invited to sit on the panel to share our recycling experience.
Well done, SS20 Central Zone! 
RA SS20 Central and KRT SS20 Damansara Utama shall have more projects in Year 2017 to make our neighbourhood a greener & cleaner place to stay in.


Family Carnival - DUN Damansara Utama

Family Carnival with music, dance, games, prizes, food & lots of other activities to boost family cohesion and build a harmonious community.
It was organized by YB Yeo Bee Yin, ADUN Damansara Utama together with MBPJ Councillors from Zone 5 – Ang Ming Ern, Zone 6 – Sia Siew Chin, Zone 7 – Daniel Lee Marn Zhi, Zone 8 – Billy Wong Swee Sang and Zone 9 – Jamaliah Jamaluddin.
Congratulations to Mr Eddie Thong and Mr Ken Leong who did SS20 proud by taking the 2nd & 3rd prize in the Durian Eating Competition. Congratulations, guys!
