Striving for a sense of community

Read about the SS20 Central community in the PJKITA community portal.

The residents’ association of SS20 Central, like many other similar to it began out of the need for security.  Now, it has found its stride in building a sense of community in the neighbourhood.

Welcomed by the well kept grounds and CCTV installations, it is easy to see that this neighbourhood is not like any other. For one, there is a noticeable lack of litter on the streets as if magical elves are tasked with ensuring the cleanliness.

We won MBPJ Sustainable Community Award 2017

15 Dec 2017
Yeh! RA SS20 CENTRAL is the 4th place winner in the MBPJ Sustainable Community Award 2017.

Although we did not get the prize that we were aiming for, we feel really blessed that this is the 2nd consecutive year that we have received recognition from MBPJ for making efforts in community sustainability and doing our part in protecting the environment.

More importantly, there is fostering of closer ties within the community and we are able to draw the youths to participate in our programmes. Our neighbourhood has also become very much safer, cleaner and greener.
Residents feel a sense of ownership and pride in the Central Zone. Our field is one of the best kept fields. Many people, young and old, choose to come to our field to relax, play and exercise. We have been told many times that SS20 Central Zone is one of the best neighbourhood in PJ and many prospective buyers are looking for a house in our area.

We wish to thank the following people who have always been there to help and support us:-

a) YB Yeo Bee Yin, ADUN Damansara Utama & her staff
b) Cik Jamaliah Jamaluddin, MBPJ Councillor Zone 9
c) Mr Lee Lih Shyan, Director JPSPPA, MBPJ & his staff
d) Pn Zuraidah Sainan, Director Landscape, MBPJ & her staff
e) Polis Balai Damansara
and of course, all our residents who have contributed much and supported our activities and programmes.

Disposal of Fluorescent Tubes and Bulbs

Fluorescent lamps contain mercury. If we throw them into the garbage bin as normal trash, they will end up in the landfills and may cause environmental and health hazard.

To dispose of our fluorescent lamps responsibly, you can send them to TBM Electrical shop which is located on the 1st floor of Tropicana City Mall.

Solar Power

Our first solar light installed at the guardhouse 2 months ago. If all goes well, we plan to install more to light up our neighbourhood.

MY DRAIN DAY

28 Oct 2017

'My Drain Day', an environmental event on drain care to prevent the pollution of rivers initiated by RA SS20 Central and supported by GAB Foundation, MBPJ and GEC (Global Environment Centre).

A very productive and interesting morning for everyone who attended the event. Activities included:

1. An informative talk on the care and purpose of drains by GEC.
2. Formation of SEDAR team (Search & Destroy Aedes Rangers) with the help of Jabatan Kesihatan, MBPJ.
Councillor Jamaliah Jamaluddin was present to join the SEDAR Team on a walkabout in the neighbourhood to search & destroy Aedes mosquitoes.
3. Cleaining of drains and the field in SS20 Central Zone. A bit of glamour was added to this mundane chore when Ms Janice Chai, Miss Malaysia All Nations joined the residents and the students from SMK Damansara Utama together with the MBPJ workers to clean the drain and the field.
4. Stencilling of drains by SMKDU students and residents with the guidance from GEC.

5. Talk on Recycling by Jabatan Pengurusan Sisa Pepejal & Pembersihan Awam, MBPJ.
6. Demo on Composting and Soap and Candle making from used cooking oil by GEC.

It was a tremendously successful event with a turnout of about 130 people. We were extremely happy to have the students , PIBG and teachers from SMKDU participating in the event.

We thank all who were involved and participated in the event. It provided a good opportunity to foster neighbourliness among the people as well as to play an active part in environment preservation and maintaining cleanliness.

We hope that this can be an annual event where the residents, the school, MBPJ and other agencies can work together towards a clean, green and harmonious environment for all.
