Raising Awareness of Zika / Dengue

RA SS20 Central Environment Committee organized a walk to cover all the roads in the Central Zone to raise awareness of the threat of the Aedes mosquitoes to the residents and also to identify potential mosquito breeding grounds.

We were happy to note that MBPJ contract workers have done a very good job in keeping Central Zone clean and neat.

All of us can help to prevent the breeding of the Aedes mosquito by frequently checking and removing stagnant water in our premises.

We thank: 

1) Cik Jamaliah Jamaluddin (MBPJ Councillor for Zone 9) and her assistant, Mr Daniel Low for joining us in the walk, 

2) YB Yeo Bee Yin's office for the provision of abate and Zika/Dengue stickers

3) MBPJ Health and Environment Department for their provision of dengue leaflets

4) MBPJ Solid Waste Management & Public Health Cleaning Department for their constant support to ensure a clean and neat environment in the Central Zone.

 

  

Anti Zika / Dengue Campaign

RA SS20 Central Environmental Committee members will be visiting Central Zone houses and check for mosquito breeding areas.

Be alert, Zika is already in Malaysia with at least 6 cases officially announced by the Health Department. 

Keeping Dengue at Bay

For the past 2 days, the Environment Committee of the RA SS20 Central has been going round the Central Zone in the evening to identify potential mosquito breeding sites so that preventive measures can be taken.

Leaflets on the prevention and control of dengue as well as packets of abate were distributed to the residents.  

Aedes mosquitoes prefer to breed in clear stagnant water. You can stop the mosquitoes from breeding by frequently checking and removing stagnant water in and around your homes.  

  

ORS in war against dengue

"Outdoor residual spray" or ORS being used in SS20 besides fogging to combat dengue after 2 cases of dengue were reported in the Central Zone and the South Zone.

ORS is a new method introduced to overcome the increasing number of cases of denque in Selangor.

ORS method is carried out by spraying insecticide onto the walls of premises and moquitoes will die upon contact with the spray.

Dengue Alert

2 cases of dengue fever in SS20. 
1) Road 15, Central Zone
2) Road 10, South Zone

Prevent breeding of Aedes mosquitos

1.	Change water in vases and bowls on alternate days
2.	Remove water from flower pot plates on alternate days
3.	Turn over all water storage containers
4.	Clear blockages in roof gutters and drains

Anti-Dengue Gotong-Royong at the Southern and Northern Zone

SS 20 residents are encouraged to join this Gotong Royong (self help) Activity to ensure your immediate environment is free from Aedes Mosquito  breeding grounds.

Anti-Dengue Gotong Royong

The Anti-Dengue Gotong Royong programme was successfully conducted by the Residents Association SS20 Central Zone this morning. It was graced by the ADUN Damanasara Utama YB Yeo Bee Yin and strongly supported by a good turn out of residents and volunteers/staff members from Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya, Star Bucks, Damansara Specialist Hospital and scouts from Sekolah Menengah Damansara Utama.

Dr. Katie Ang, a Public Health Consultant and a resident of our area, made a very informative presentation on the dangers of dengue and steps to help stop the transmission of dengue.

The residents and volunteers went round the residential areas cleaning up all potential aedes mosquito breeding grounds. MBPJ assisted in trimming and pruning the overgrown trees in the field and playground.
