First woman mayor will fulfil her duties the best she can

MALAYSIA has a woman mayor — the first in the country. Her name is Datin Paduka Alinah Ahmad and she will take over the helm as Petaling Jaya mayor as of Jan 1, 2013.
Alinah will replace former mayor Datuk Mohamad Roslan Sakiman, who will assume duties as the deputy state secretary.
The first question StarMetro asked Alinah, who is currently Selangor Singular Real Property Housing Board chief executive officer, was how does it feel to be Malaysia’s first woman mayor?
“This is very important to me and I shall do my best to deliver. That is my main objective,” said Alinah, 63, who is busy clearing her work schedule as CEO until end of December.
She thanked the Selangor state government for giving her the honorific appointment.
Yes, she is the first woman mayor in Malaysia, but that does not make her special, she said.
“Yes, I am a lady, but I still have to prove that I can perform my mayoral duties.”   Read more ..........

The motorcycles are equipped with a lights and siren system and also a call-set system to enable the respective district police or Bukit Aman to alert the patrol unit to a distress call.

The unit will conduct round-the-clock patrols in teams of two in residential areas in shifts and also busy areas such as commercial areas, recreational parks and schools in addition to the regular patrolling that we are having now.

For a start, the patrol unit will only be patrolling Bandar Utama, so SS20 will not be seeing them just yet .....

MBPJ demolishes boom gate

PETALING Jaya City Council's (MBPJ) enforcement team recently demolished illegal barriers around the city's residential areas.

The council's team, led by Public Complaints Unit director Tengku Nazaruddin Zainudin said that they had to act on the many complaints about such illegal barriers from residents.
The 15-member team used a bulldozer to remove a boom gate in Jalan 12/16.
According to Tengku Nazaruddin, residents' associations need to apply to the local council to get permission before they can put up any barriers.
"Our checks reveal that this neighbourhood's boom gate is illegal, hence the removal," he said, adding that the team would be doing this phase by phase in other parts of PJ.

Bukit Kiara supporters fretting over perimeter fencing in the park

THE waiting game for Bukit Kiara to be gazetted as a green lung continues.
Although it has been more than three months since a stop-work order was issued to all development work in Bukit Kiara, there has been no news on its green lung status — a cause that Bukit Kiara stakeholders have been fighting for a long time.
There was a public outcry on the damage caused by the construction of a perimeter fencing undertaken by the National Landcape Depart-ment (JLN). The fence was part of a project to demarcate the park.
Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Chor Chee Heung had suggested at a public discussion in Bangunan Bakti on July 31 that Bukit Kiara would be gazetted in phases as part of the land had been leased.      Read more .....

Sprint Highway to close for 1 year

KUALA LUMPUR: MASS Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has announced a 12-month closure of the left-most lane of the Sprint Highway, from the Bukit Kiara junction to the Jalan Maarof junction (Kuala Lumpur bound) starting today till Nov 14 next year.

This closure will be in effect from 9am to 4pm and 9pm to 6am daily. This is to facilitate construction work for the MRT.
The lane closure is being implemented after two trials recently were found to have no adverse impact on the Kuala Lumpur-bound traffic.
The first trial was carried out for a day and second for seven days, and on both occasions the traffic was moving with slight hold-up at the point where the traffic from Kerinchi Link (Kiara) merged with traffic from Petaling Jaya on the Damansara Link.    Read more ........

Meeting with the OCS

Despite the rain last night, the OCS of Damansara Utama Police Station, Insp Mohd Zul Azri together with Sgt Hamdan, Kpl Azmi and Kpl Zahrein arrived punctually at 9:00 pm to meet with some residents at the Central Zone Community Policing Cabin to discuss the security situation in SS20.

We were told that the there were no reports of criminal cases for the past 2 weeks but the police alerted us to be cautious because it’s the rainy season now and through their experience, house break-ins are very common during the rainy season.

All residents are therefore, encouraged to call the SS20 police hotline 016-6840009 whenever they see any suspicious character or activity, because if the crooks are around and they see the police patrolling, this can greatly deter them and avoid any crime from happening. But if a crime has already occurred, please call 999.

As such, residents have requested the police to increase their patrolling in SS20.

Also, if you will not be home for a few days, you can fill up a form and inform the police so that they can pay extra attention to your house when they patrol around that area. You can obtain these forms at the Central Zone Cabin or at the police station.

Residents also requested the police to check out on a group of foreign workers staying in a house on Jalan SS20/11.

On another note, the police advised us not to withdraw money from ATM machines late at night, especially if the ATM machine is located at a quiet area. And, if after withdrawing money from the bank or ATM machine, you discovered that your car tyre has been punctured, drive straight to the nearest police station.

The residents thanked the police for spending their time to talk to them and appreciate the opportunity to bring up their security matters.
