New Anti-Dumping Law for Selangor in the Works

SELANGOR plans to formulate a new law to check on illegal dumping in the state and bring the culprits to book, said State Local Government committee chairman Ean Yong Hian Wah.
Absence of such a law has led to rampant illegal dumping of garbage, he added.
“The enactment will allow the state to impose heavy penalties including high fines and stiffer punishment against those found guilty of committing the offence,” he said. Read more ......

Selangor to start waste separation in selected housing schemes

In an effort to reduce its carbon footprint, the Selangor government is planning to introduce a pilot project on waste separation in selected housing schemes later this year.
State exco for local government, new village development, legalising of factories chairman Ean Yong Hian Wah said residents would have to separate their solid waste and scheduled collection would be carried out.
“We are still in the midst of finalising the areas and it will be started in stages at the housing schemes. What we want to see is the behaviour of the residents and how much waste they generate,” he said.
“We will start with a simple way of separating the garbage into two components, which is recyclable and general waste. Two days will be allocated for the collection of general waste and one day for recyclable items,” he said ... Read more ...
