One litre of used oil can contaminate one million litres of water!

Instead of pouring our used cooking oil down the drain or throwing it into the garbage bin, why not put it to better use by recycling it into biogas.

You can either pass your used cooking oil to the MBPJ recycling truck that comes every Tuesday or pour the oil into the blue collection bin placed at the guardhouse at Jalan SS20/12.

When the bin is full, MBPJ will take it away and replace it with another bin.

RA SS20 Central learns how to contribute to river care.

River care is important because 90% of the water supply comes from rivers, And what goes into the drains eventually will flow into the rivers too. So it is crucial we do not contaminate the water in our drains and in the rivers because we will end up drinking this water! 

Contaminated water will affect the vegetables we plant and the water we drink and this will be hazardous to our health.

Please recycle your used cooking oil and all other recyclable items with MBPJ every Tuesday. 

A total of 20 members from the SS20, Seksyen 14, TTDI, Perumahan Awam Bukit Kiara and Block 1 Desa Mentari communities participated in the half-day training session. One bag for all recyclables

Road 14 residents were briefed by Puan Marini from Jabatan Pengurusan Sisa Pepejal dan Pembersihan Awam, MBPJ on how the single stream waste separation works. 

The pilot program is set to start on Tuesday, 5 April 2016 for Road 14. Residents will need to place all the recyclable items into just one large clear plastic bag provided by MBPJ. Collection of these items will be carried out by MBPJ once a week.

 

 

Selangor to start waste separation in selected housing schemes

In an effort to reduce its carbon footprint, the Selangor government is planning to introduce a pilot project on waste separation in selected housing schemes later this year.

State exco for local government, new village development, legalising of factories chairman Ean Yong Hian Wah said residents would have to separate their solid waste and scheduled collection would be carried out.

“We are still in the midst of finalising the areas and it will be started in stages at the housing schemes. What we want to see is the behaviour of the residents and how much waste they generate,” he said.

“We will start with a simple way of separating the garbage into two components, which is recyclable and general waste. Two days will be allocated for the collection of general waste and one day for recyclable items,” he said ... Read more ...

How to seal a bag and make it air-tight



Cut up a disposable water bottle and keep the neck and top, as in photo.

Insert the plastic bag through the neck and screw the top to seal and you have an air-tight bag!

Relocation of recycling collection site

Collection of recyclable items by the Tzu Chi group of volunteers on the 3^rd Sunday of each month, previously near the shops at SS20/11 has been relocated to SS20/10, near the mechanic shop. Time is from 8:00 am to 11:00 am.

Residents are encouraged to send their recyclable items here because proceeds from the sale of these items are used for charitable causes. Residents are also welcome to volunteer to help sort out the recyclable items.

The Tzu Chi Foundation, whose name means "compassion and relief," is an international humanitarian organization founded in Taiwan. Tzu Chi remains a non-profitable organization and has built many hospitals and schools worldwide.
