Road contractors told to repave driveway entrances and not charge owners

CONTRACTORS engaged to repave the neighbourhood roads have been warned not to solicit payment from houseowners the driveway entrance as the local councils have included it in the bill of quantities (BoQ).
Selangor Youth and Sports, Infrastructure and Public Facilities executive councillor Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi said his office had received numerous complaints about contractors not repaving the area outside the main gate.
There were complaints from residents who said they were asked by road contractors to pay between RM300 and RM380 for them to pave the pathway in front of the house gates.
Dr Ahmad said he had instructed all local authorities to print clearly in the BoQ for road contractors to repave the neighbourhood streets according to the requisite thickness and the work must include the driveway entrance.  Read more

Selangor to start water rationing tomorrow

SHAH ALAM: Selangor is to enforce water rationing throughout the state tomorrow in areas where there has been disruption since Feb 7.
Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said water would be rationed in stages so that all areas would receive supply every two days.

Water cut: All four water treatment plants back in operation, supply back in 40% of affected areas but low pressure, says Syabas

Oil spill at Sungai Selangor.

PETALING JAYA: All four treatment plants shut down by the oil contamination in Sungai Selangor have resumed operations, and water distribution has begun to affected areas.

In a statement, Syabas said operations had resumed at its plants at approximately 3am Saturday, and water distribution had begun at 6am.

"As at 10am, some affected areas have been receiving limited supply, but at low water pressures.
"The number of affected accounts are down to 880,000, which comprise 60% of the households in Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, Klang/Shah Alam, Gombak, Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor," it said, adding that supply in the Kuala Langat district was back to normal.   Read more  .........

Syabas activates Code Red emergency response following diesel spill near Klang Valley water catchment areas

PETALING JAYA: Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) has activated its emergency response plan following spillage of diesel 10km away from the intake area.
Water disruption is bound to affect more than one million consumers in seven districts, as four water treatments plants namely Sungai Selangor Phase 1, 2 and 3 and Rantau Panjang had to be closed down to facilitate cleaning up activities.

Districts affected are Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, Klang/Shah Alam, Gombak, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Langat and Kuala Selangor.
Syabas, which has deemed the situation a Code Red, is appealing to consumers to prudently use water prudently drawing from existing storage, as the duration of disruption cannot yet be ascertained.
Corporate Communication and Public Affairs department deputy general manager Priscilla Alfred said they have yet to determine the cause of spillage.
“We are still awaiting investigation reports.
“However, LUAS (Lembaga Urus Air Selangor) has initiated a cleaning up exercise,” she said.
