Kidex part of Selangor’s long-term urban plan, says MB

SUBANG JAYA, May 20 ― The Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) is an integral part of Selangor's new structural plan for 2035, Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said today, in yet another sign that the controversial  project is here to stay.

Despite growing objections by some residents in Petaling Jaya, the Selangor mentri besar reaffirmed that the highway, in addition to improving public transportation, is necessary for the state's future growth.

“All these projects, Kidex, MRT...we cannot look for a quick solution.“
When there is density, there must be preparations so that we can help people move from one place to another,” he told reporters at a news conference.  Read more .......

Selangor to start water rationing tomorrow

SHAH ALAM: Selangor is to enforce water rationing throughout the state tomorrow in areas where there has been disruption since Feb 7.
Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said water would be rationed in stages so that all areas would receive supply every two days.

"We pledge that every consumer will receive water, but it will be rationed to ensure supply every two days.

"In a week, consumers will receive water for four days," he told reporters after attending the monthly gathering of civil servants, here.  Read more

Thumbs up for security scheme in PJ

PETALING JAYA: Since establishing its Community Security Programme (PKK), the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has received positive feedback from residents in the city.

The security scheme for residents received praise, particularly from the Rukun Tetangga as well as residents' associations.

Mayor Datin Paduka Alinah Ahmad said that the scheme, introduced in 2011, has been effective in combating crime in neighbourhoods here.

"We received 65 applications in 2011, and 72 last year," said Alinah, adding that the applications are among those received from 164 residents' associations and Rukun Tetangga registered with the MBPJ.

She said the aim of the PKK is to combat crime in neighbourhoods, and members of the PKK have been working closely with the police.  Read more .......

Mayor's new formula to keep PJ clean

Waste collection contractors who do not perform up to mark during the probationary period will have their contracts terminated.

 NO SLACKING: Garbage collection contractors will be on a one-year probationary period to ensure that they maintain the quality of their service

PETALING JAYA: ALL bulk, garden and domestic waste collection contractors, who are to start their services in the city, will be given a six-month probation period to gauge their services.

This was announced by Mayor Datin Paduka Alinah Ahmad after her swearing-in ceremony as a councillor and new mayor yesterday.

She said contractors who fared well will be given another six months probation to ensure that they maintain the good service. Upon completion of the probation period, which takes up to a year, the contractor will be awarded a  one-year contract for his services.    Read more ......  

Highway lane to close for 2 months

KUALA LUMPUR: Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) is announcing the temporary night closure of the left-most lane on the Sprint Highway (Petaling Jaya-bound) for a stretch of 350m parallel to Jalan Medang Serai from the junction of Jalan Batai Barat until after the junction of Jalan Medang Tanduk.

The closure, to be implemented in stages, will be effective for a period of two months from today until March 11, from 11pm to 5am.

The closure is to facilitate utility piloting works at the junctions of Jalan Batai Barat and Jalan Medang Tanduk with the Sprint Highway.

The right-most lane on Jalan Damansara will also be closed for a length of 1.2km (Kuala Lumpur- and Petaling Jaya-bound) from Jan 15 to April 30. The closure stretch is from Stesen Minyak Petronas (Taman Tun Dr Ismail) to the Indah Water Konsortium Sewerage Treatment Plant (also in Taman Tun Dr Ismail).    Read more ......  

Sprint Highway to close for 1 year

KUALA LUMPUR: MASS Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has announced a 12-month closure of the left-most lane of the Sprint Highway, from the Bukit Kiara junction to the Jalan Maarof junction (Kuala Lumpur bound) starting today till Nov 14 next year.

This closure will be in effect from 9am to 4pm and 9pm to 6am daily. This is to facilitate construction work for the MRT.

The lane closure is being implemented after two trials recently were found to have no adverse impact on the Kuala Lumpur-bound traffic.

The first trial was carried out for a day and second for seven days, and on both occasions the traffic was moving with slight hold-up at the point where the traffic from Kerinchi Link (Kiara) merged with traffic from Petaling Jaya on the Damansara Link.    Read more ........

Tropicana City Mall goes pink

PETALING JAYA: THE adage, "prevention is better than cure", serves as inspiration for the aptly-designated Pink Week period which goes on until Oct 31 at Tropicana City Mall.

This campaign is being held in collaboration with Makna (The National Cancer Council of Malaysia).

Rallying to the call to raise awareness on cancer prevention, with a particular emphasis on breast cancer, the mall will host an exhibition themed My Pledge Against Cancer.

Visitors to the exhibition, open from 10am to 10pm, for the entire duration of Pink Week are also invited to participate in the numerous counseling sessions, demos and talks -- all revolving around breast cancer.   Read more ........

PETALING JAYA : THE former neighbourhood shopping centre, Atria, in Damansara Jaya here is now being rebuilt. In 2007,  OSK Property Holdings Sdn Bhd bought  the mall  to redevelop it.

The  project is being carried out by Atria Damansara Sdn Bhd and construction work is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

The new Atria will feature a mixed commercial development which comprises a  lifestyle shopping gallery and   SOFO (Small Office Flexi Office) suites.

The mall will open its doors  to the public in early 2014 while the suites by 2015.

Damansara Utama folks running out of patience

PETALING JAYA: Damansara Utama Residents and Owners Association president Rajesh Patel said residents were losing patience.

He said they had been  waiting for the   right turn from the Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI)  interchange  to Damansara Utama for too  long.

He said they  were sick and tired of having to take  lengthy detours to get  home, as a result of its closure.

"It has been four months. We want the right turn to be opened immediately after Raya. We want  sound barriers to be put up on the flyover. We are also requesting that   the hoarding be replaced and the trees replanted."

He said the loss of the trees and the removal of  sound barriers had compounded  noise and dust woes for houses in Jalan 21/44.  Read more ........   

MRT line too close, say residents

HOUSE owners living along Jalan Pinggir Zaaba in Taman Tun Dr Ismail here are urging Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Sdn Bhd   (MRT Corp) to realign the MRT line on a reserve land on the opposite side of the road.

Segambut Barisan Nasional coordinating chairman Jayanthi Devi Balaguru said the committee is asking for the realignment to be moved to the road along Damansara Utama, or any other  spot  further away from their homes.

Pro-tem committee members of Pinggir Zaaba House Owners' Association, together with Segambut Barisan Nasional, recently held a press conference to voice their dissatisfaction over the location of the MRT station.  Read more ....   

TTDI right turn may reopen

Motorists have to endure the daily congestion along Jalan Damansara Utama.

THE right turn from the Taman Tun Dr Ismail interchange that leads to Damansara Utama may be reopened soon.

The Malaysian Highway Authority and Lingkaran Trans Kota (Litrak) has agreed to reopen the right turn in a meeting last Thursday pending Petaling Jaya City Council's (MBPJ)'s approval.

Litrak communication head Shah Rizal Mohamed Fauzi confirmed  meeting with MBPJ engineering department director Cheremi Tarman.

He said Litrak was told that the new plan would be submitted to the council's infrastructure committee for approval.  Read more .......  

Website to rate car park safety

KUALA LUMPUR: A local women's media channel, VenusBuzz.com, is urging Malaysians to start rating the safety of car parks in selected shopping malls around the Klang Valley in efforts of heightening awareness on crime "hotspots" specifically targeting single women drivers.

The VenusBuzz CARing Project is an initiative by online women's media channel VenusBuzz.com.

It was initiated last year after realising that not much was being done to make public spaces safe for women since  incidences such as the murder of Canny Ong in 2003.

Last week, a girl was kidnapped from the parking lot of The Curve but managed to escape without harm.

THE Petaling Jaya City Council will offer assessment rebates of up to 100 per cent to  house owners  who observe  the six  key green components.

The council has set the key components to help residents focus on their green efforts. The components include the usage of energy, water, waste management, transportation, bio-diversity and other creative initiatives.

CITY councillors were left baffled yesterday at the council's full board meeting when it was highlighted that there were two versions of the gazetted Petaling Jaya Local  Plan 2.

Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohamad Roslan Sakiman said the council will look into the matter  as it was a serious offence if anyone had altered the official plan.

He said the plan which was printed for public distribution was different from the one approved by the state.

The  plan printed for public distribution by the council was different compared to the one which belonged to the Selangor Town and Rural Planning Department. Read more .....

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday made an impassioned plea to the abductors of a 12-year-old schoolboy to release him.

The Dutch national, Nayati Shamelin Moodliar, was on his way to Mont Kiara International School at 7.40am when he was grabbed by two men into a black Proton Gen 2.

Najib tweeted: “I appeal as a father for Nayati not to be harmed in any way. Spoke directly to police IGP to investigate the matter.”

20 community libraries in 3 years

GOOD NEWS:The state will invest RM6 million to build technologically-enhanced community libraries in densely-populated areas.

YOUTHS in the outskirts will get access to books when more community libraries are built.
The Selangor government will build 20 more technologically-enhanced community libraries in the state at the cost of RM6 million.

The libraries will be built over the next three years in densely populated residential areas.

CITY folk may see  the modern trishaw used as  public transport here,  based on a suggestion in the Petaling Jaya 2020 Special Area Draft Plan.

The idea for the trishaw was recently discussed at a public briefing of the Draft Plan in a community hall in Jalan SS3/14, by Prof Mohamad Rehan Karim of the Centre For Transportation Research, Universiti  Malaya.

The modern trishaw, which runs on battery, he said, was not only more environment friendly but also a cheaper mode of transport compared to taxis.  Read more ...... 

New projects, homes to get LED bulbs

GOING GREEN: The Petaling Jaya City Council will provide the bulbs for free in a bid to create a sustainable city, combat crime and cut electricity cost.

ALL new developments in the city must be installed with energy-saving bulbs said mayor Datuk Mohamad Roslan Sakiman.

Since last year, developers had been informed to take note of the requirement. This is in line with the council’s aim to go green and to become a sustainable city.   Read more ..... 

Council to track compactors



MUST-HAVE:The Automatic Vehicle Locating System device will monitor the vehicle’s movement

The Automatic Vehicle Locating System in the truck will ensure waste collection in Petaling Jaya is done efficiently.

ALL the 32 garbage collection contractors servicing the Petaling Jaya city will be required to install a tracking device on their  compactors soon.

 

The tracking device, called Automatic Vehicle Locating System (AVLS), will enable Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) to monitor the garbage collection in each of the contractors' designated zones and ensure that the rubbish collection is done as scheduled.

Announcing this  at the MBPJ headquarters yesterday, mayor Datuk Mohamad Roslan Sakiman said the council is making it compulsory for each of the servicing compactors to be installed with AVLS, which uses the global positioning system (GPS), to track the compactors' movement in real-time and monitor them from a control room in MBPJ. Read more ......
