2 men entered the house through a window at about 10:20 pm by cutting the window grille. They carried away the safe and climbed over the brick wall fence with the safe.

The maid was in the house at that time but claimed that she did not hear anything.

'Estima Gang' Menace

PETALING JAYA: A gang of four parang-wielding robbers who move around in a white Toyota Estima are terrorising Klang Valley residents after pulling off at least 11 robbery cases in the past two months.

Except for two cases where they were reported to have come in a Toyota Vellfire and a Lexus MPV, the robbers had used a heavily-tinted white Toyota Estima in the rest of the robberies they committed.

The vehicles were fitted with false number plates in all cases.

Dubbed the “Estima Gang”, the robbers are behind nine cases in Selangor and two in Kuala Lumpur.

Police have reports from victims in Puchong, USJ, Cheras, Bukit Antarabangsa and Rawang. Read more .....

Experts: Water woes far from over

PETALING JAYA: Water supply woes are far from over although rationing has been called off.

Experts have warned that water crises in the Klang Valley may be the norm until the completion of the Langat 2 treatment plant in Selangor.

S. Piarapakaran, president of the Association of Water Energy Re­­­search (Awer) said Selangor’s water treatment reserve margin was too low to guarantee constant flow during dry seasons or unexpected plant shutdowns. Read more

'Lucky draw' conman on the prowl in Klang Valley

KLANG: Police are on the trail of a man who cheating people through a fictitious lucky draw at several supermarkets in the Klang Valley.

North Klang police chief ACP Mohd Shukor Sulong said in the past 10 months, eight victims have reported losses amounting to RM103,250 after being deceived by the man, who posed as a supermarket manager. 

"The man allegedly offered the victims a range of cars as prizes by convincing them that their receipt numbers matched the engine numbers of the vehicles they had won, he told reporters here on Tuesday.

"He then persuades them to pay for the purported road tax and insurance, and disappears once he gets the money," ACP Mohd Shukor said, adding that the targeted victims were men in their 40s or retired. - Bernama

Cops seek to further reduce crime rate in Klang Valley

PETALING JAYA: Police aim to reduce the crime rate even further, especially in the Klang Valley through various efforts, including better engagement with the people through community policing programmes and increased use of the Internet and social media.

Selangor police chief Deputy CommDatuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah (pic) said police managed to reduce the crime rate in the state by 8.3% last year with 40,629 cases recorded compared with 44,302 cases in 2011.

“It represented a drop of 3,673 cases. The decline in crime is due to a number of successful programmes based on working with the community,” he said yesterday.

DCP Tun Hisan said the force also worked on having strategic police presence to prevent and combat crime.   Read more .....

Website to rate car park safety

KUALA LUMPUR: A local women's media channel, VenusBuzz.com, is urging Malaysians to start rating the safety of car parks in selected shopping malls around the Klang Valley in efforts of heightening awareness on crime "hotspots" specifically targeting single women drivers.

The VenusBuzz CARing Project is an initiative by online women's media channel VenusBuzz.com.

It was initiated last year after realising that not much was being done to make public spaces safe for women since  incidences such as the murder of Canny Ong in 2003.

Last week, a girl was kidnapped from the parking lot of The Curve but managed to escape without harm.  

Actress Lina Teoh was harassed on the road and had her car attacked by men on motorcycles.  Read more ....
