Free Health Talk and Health Screening organized by RA SS20 Central in collaboration with University Malaya.

7:30 am–9:00am: Blood Sampling (Limited to the first 30 people only, aged   55 years and above)

9:30 am–10:15am: Talk on “Falls in Older People”, by Assoc Prof. Dr. Tan Maw Pin 

11:00am–1:00pm:  Health Screening

NOTES: 

1) Please fast for at least 8 hours if you want to participate in the "Blood Sampling". Also, bring your "normal" medications for record by the organizers.

2) Participants of the MELoR health programme are not eligible for the Blood Sampling (You have/will have a special blood sampling programme by MELoR)

3) Please immediately register yourself at the "Blood Sampling" counter as soon as you arrive at the Dewan. Blood sampling is ONLY limited to 30 eligible persons, first come first serve.

Selangor SPCA seeks neuter plan

KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) will be approaching the state government with a more concrete plan on trap-neuter-release-manage programme soon.

Its president Christine Chin said the society had prepared a working paper on the matter and hope to present it to the state authorities soon.

She said Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali was quite receptive to the idea when he was approached earlier in the year.  Read more....

Recognition of work well done

After the outbreak of a few dengue cases in the SS20 neighbourhood, the Environmental Committee of the RA SS20 Central organized a dengue round 2 months ago to create awareness among the residents and also to identify the potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Following that, the committee made a request to MBPJ to clean up the Central Zone.

With the help from the Solid Waste Management & Public Sanitary Dept as well as the City Landscape & Greenery Dept from MBPJ, trees and bushes were trimmed, drains were unclogged and cleaned.

On Saturday, 13 June, the RA SS20 Central organized an appreciation lunch for the MBPJ contract workers who worked diligently to help keep our area clean and free from dengue. 

We would also like to remind residents to check their homes and surrounding areas regularly to ensure that there is no stagnant water. 

 

Talk on Medication and Supplements

RA SS20 Central in collaboration with the Malaysian Elders Longitudinal Research (MELoR) organized a health talk for their members and their families on Sat, 23 May 2015 at Cabin 8, Jalan SS20/14.

About 80 residents and guests turned up for an interactive and enlightening talk on Medication and Supplements for the Elders given by Assoc Prof Dr Shahrul Bahyah, Geriatrician of UMMC.

MELoR is a national research study by the University of Malaya with focus on healthcare for the elderly community.

Guests present at the talk were Mr Billy Wong, assistant to ADUN DU, Sgt Mat Din and other police personnel, Puan Eileen Thong, RT SS20 Chairman, Mr Andrew Chong, Ketua Usia Mas RT SS20 and Mr Chung, Treasurer of RA North Zone.

   

Security Alert - TNB Contractors

It has been brought to our attention that there are TNB contractor(s) in our area to re-position the TNB electricity meter at our houses to face the front gate.

We have confirmed that these contractors are legitimate and legally appointed by TNB and this exercise is authorized by TNB. This work is at NO CHARGES/COST TO THE CONSUMER.

However, in some cases, the contractor(s) have employed certain unethical tactics and asked for payment.

Please call Sgt Mat Din 012-3543687 or Damansara Police station 03-77222222 immediately if you see the contractors coming to our area or visiting you.

The police are already aware of our concerns and as such, you do not have to explain much when you call them. They will send their patrol personnel to obtain the contractor's details and to show their presence to the contractor that they are being monitored.

Tai Chi in the Central Zone

A large group of SS20 residents gathered at the Central Zone field last night to attend their 1st Tai Chi class.

Tai Chi, the Chinese slow-moving exercise can help relieve stress and increase flexiibility and balance.

The class was conducted by Mr Paul Hoe, a Central Zone resident and organized by the RA SS20 CENTRAL. 

The aim of the activity is to promote a healthy lifestyle and to bring the residents together through exercise.

Classes will be held every Monday and Thursday night, 8 - 9pm at the Central Zone field.

Damansara Utama School reaps benefit ot solar energy project

Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Damansara Utama (SMKDU) in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, is now a proud "green power producer" after its solar photovoltaic rooftop project received the approval of the Sustainable Energy Development Authority.

With the approval, the school would now have a guaranteed annual income for the next 21 years under the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) mechanism.

The solar power project at the school was implemented by Cypark Resources Bhd under its corporate responsibility Adopt-a-School programme. Read more ....

Storms and flash floods ahead

City dwellers advised to take precautions with inter-monsoon weather this month.

KUALA LUMPUR: City dwellers are advised to take precautionary measures to face possible flash floods, thunderstorm, fallen trees and even landslides during the current weather uncertainties.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department director Khiruddin Drahman said the department, together with the National Security Council and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall, were fully prepared to respond to any untoward incidents.

He said City Hall had also taken the initiative to cut down trees with high probability of falling onto roads during thunderstorm.

“I would also like to advise city dwellers to take caution and avoid being in a field or under a tree during thunderstorm or heavy rain,” he said. “Apart from that, please avoid using the mobile phone during heavy rain and thunderstorm.”

The Meteorological Department has previously issued warnings to curtail outdoor activities in the afternoons, with the prospect of thunderstorms and strong winds occurring in several states on the west coast.

Met director-general Che Gayah Ismail said the current weather phenomenon was caused by the transition of the monsoon winds that triggered hot weather during the day as well as heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. The inter-monsoon period lasts until the end of May.
