Crime Awareness Day 2011

The Selangor Crime Awareness Day 2011 was launched by IGP Tan Sri Haji Ismail Omar at the Curve on Saturday, 19 Nov. The programme is jointly organised by the Selangor police contingent headquarters, Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation and the Youth and Sports Ministry. It is one of the many programmes to bring the public closer to the police.

At the same event, the book ‘Beyond Policing – The Strategic Shift’, written by Selangor Chief Police, Dato’ Hj. Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah together with Mr. Khoo Kheng Hor was also launched by the IGP. This book is priced at RM25.00 and can be obtained at all MPH bookstores.

Lastly, we are very proud to announce that RT SS20 Community Policing was solely invited among all the RAs/RTs in Selangor to display an exhibition booth at the event. The booth was jointly managed by the police and our residents.

IGP giving speech

The IGP wants the public to be the ‘eyes and ears’ for the police and inform the police of anything suspicious.

He urged the public to provide the police with new ideas or proposals on how to reduce crime rate in the country.
He said with help and support from the public, the crime index could be further reduced.

The IGP said, “The involvement of the public does not mean that the police will shirk their duties and responsibilities but is another strategy by the police in fighting crime. Perhaps, there are some measures that we (police) have not thought about. If feasible, we will implement them and give the individuals concerned prizes as a token of our appreciation”.

The IGP also said he has received a favourable budget from the govt to fight crime. With the budget, he will be able to equip the police force better to combat crime.

Suspicious character on the prowl

Last week, one of our residents saw a suspicious-looking dark-skinned man holding a mobile phone looking into each and every house in SS20/13  at about 10.30 pm.
Later this suspicious-looking character walked into the back lane of SS20/16 -SS20/14.
Our resident immediately called 03-77222222 to inform the police.

Please be alert and take precaution. This guy may be on the lookout for opportunities to break into our homes ......

Fighting crime with better design and layout
Some tips of homeowners
Ÿ             Avoid having concrete beams, large plants and tall shrubs that are too close to the fence and building.
Ÿ             Have fencing which offers visibility and has an anti-climbing design, while shrubbery should be below 0.9m in height.
Ÿ             Trees and plants must always be pruned so that the residence does not become too shady and dark. Also, sufficient lighting at the back area.
Ÿ             Get to know the neighbours and the neighbourhood.

Beware of highway motorcycle gangs

AT about 8.30pm on Oct 20, I was driving back to Kuala Lumpur from Penang on the North South Expressway when, between Slim River and Behrang, my car skidded and slammed into the road divider. This was due to heavy rain and my carelessness.

The car was badly damaged but I was not hurt as there was no other vehicle nearby.

I could still drive the damaged car and headed for the police station nearby to make a report.

Moments later, two men on a motorcycle tried to flag me down. Read more ......
