Security Alert - Snatch Theft 13 July 2016

A snatch theft incident occurred on 13 July evening, about 7:15 pm on Road 20 near the junction with Road 21 close to the boom barrier.

A resident was walking along Road 20 when her bag was pulled from behind by a man wearing an orange motorcycle helmet with a dark visor. The man then escaped through the boom barrier into Road 21.

The attached 3 CCTV screenshots show the sequence of events. The man is thinly built, dark skinned, probably late teens or early twenties.

We have already provided some of these screenshots to the DU Police and will try and get some more clearer images. 

If our place was not barricaded, these guys on their motorbikes will be rounding in our area.

Snatch theft incident at Rd 10

Snatch theft incident at Road 10, South Zone last Tuesday.

Victim was walking home from Tropicana City Mall when she was approached by 2 men with parang on a motorbike.

She was robbed of her handphone and some cash. 

 

Security Update

1) Snatch theft at Jalan SS20/2 (South Zone, not gated and guarded) last week at 10:30pm.
Suspect came on a motorbike, tried to snatch girl's bag but the girl threw her bag into her compound. The suspect managed to get away with the girl's handphone.

2) Try not to go to the bank ATMs at night.
At 11pm last week, a man was slashed at the neck at one of the banks in TTDI.
The victim went to deposit his cash at the ATM. Suddenly someone stood very close to him. The robber was hiding in between the ATMs. When the victim turned around, the robber slashed his neck and asked for money. The robber did not want the handphone. The victim gave him the money. Then someone else entered the ATM area and was also robbed. 
Police investigation found that normally the accomplices who act as lookout will be in 2 cars parked outside the bank.

Do not have much details but heard that victim had quite a lot of cash in her handbag.

Attempted Snatch Theft Incident

8:45 pm, Wed, 18 Dec - Attempted snatch theft incident at Jalan SS20/16.

Resident parked his car opposite his house, then walked to his house carrying a briefcase. He  was closing the garden gate when an Indian man came on his motorbike with a parang and tried to rob him. The victim shouted and the suspect went off. The suspect was alone. Did not manage to steal anything.

Attempted Snatch Theft from a Car

Snatch thieves no longer use motorcycles to commit crimes nowadays. They are now using cars instead.

In a latest attempt on Tueday, two snatch thieves used a multi-purpose vehicle to grab a woman's gold chain. However, the woman narrowly escaped them in Desa Aman Puri, in Kepong.

In the incident which occured at 12.26pm, the footage was captured via a dashboard camera by another motorist. The video that was submitted to Malaysian Crime Awareness Campaign by Lim Kwee Han.

The video showed the woman walking past a stationary car before a man in the front passenger seat pounced on her in attempt to grab her chain.

However, the woman struggled to fend off the attacker and managed to escape.

Civilians are advised to be on constant alert for the car with the number plate, ADN 1555.

Desa Jaya police station official said the woman has yet to make a police report on the case.

He said the victm should make a report at the nearest station to help police in their investiagtion into the crime.

Bukit Gasing rep Rajiv the latest victim of snatch theft

PETALING JAYA: Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran (pix) became a victim of snatch theft when a man grabbed his iPad from his hands while he was having breakfast in Jalan Othman here on Monday.

Rajiv was seated alone at a coffee shop and reading the news at 10.30am when the thief dashed through the shop and grabbed his iPad.

“He ran out and hopped on to a motorbike (with an accomplice) that was waiting. A guy in the restaurant tried to chase after them but they were too fast.

“It all happened in a few seconds and I was in such a state of shock that I couldn’t react,” Rajiv said, adding that he had lodged a police report on the matter. .... read more .....

1. Snatch theft incident at Jalan SS20/8

2. House break-in. Although gated and guarded in the Northern Zone but that did not stop intruders from breaking into a house in Jalan SS20/26. Happened at about 8:30 pm. Managed to get away with a safe and other valuables.

An Indian man went into the kindergarten posing as a parent looking for his child, then robbed a teacher of a laptop and cash.

Be Crime Smart

TO CURB snatch thefts and pick-pockets, it is advisable not to carry large amounts of cash. Sling the handbag in front of you so you can keep an eye on it and make sure it is properly fastened or zipped.

Do not leave your wallet or handbag in the shopping basket or trolley. Check your wallet or handbag immediately if someone jostles or bumps into you. And try not to doze off while taking public transport or leave your belongings unattended.

For car break-ins

Park at well-lit areas and places that can be seen by the parking attendants.

Security briefing from police - 4 Oct 2012

2 Oct - Snatch theft incident. A lady had her handbag snatched while walking along Jalan SS20/4. She noticed 4 men (Malay or Indonesian) inside a Kancil. As she passed them, one of the men got out and snatched her bag.

3 Oct - Robbery. The same men in the Kancil struck again. They robbed a man at Jalan SS20/10.

Please call the police if you see a dark blue Kancil, no. plate AEC 1298.

2) Jalan SS20/10 - man robbed by armed men on motorbike at the carpark in front of the hospital 

Also watch out for 2 Malay guys in their 20's on motorbike. The pillion rider is slightly plump and dark skinned. They have been making their rounds in TTDI and have robbed and also made several attempts to rob TTDI residents. Suspect they may also be going around SS20 ..... 

Beware the smash and grab robbers

PETALING JAYA: Smash and grab robbers are among the criminal threats faced by the average Malaysian driver today.

These menace on wheels prey on drivers when they stop at traffic light junctions by smashing the passenger side window of the car and grabbing valuables placed on the passenger seat.

Despite it not being a new ploy, people still continue to fall victim to such smash and grab robbers.

Statistics released by the Royal Malaysian Police showed that smash and grab cases are still contributing to the national crime index.

“Smash and grab cases which are classified as snatch theft cases, are a part of the 319 cases of snatch thefts recorded in May and June this year,” said the report.

The reason for this, said Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Arjunaidi Mohamed, is that most people do not take the necessary steps to protect themselves from smash and grab robbers.  Read more .............. 

Security guard robbed

Last week, one of the guards manning the boom gate at Jalan SS20/1 in the Northern Zone was robbed of RM500.00 by 2 Malay guys on a motorbike.

At about 11am on Monday, June 25, a young man crossing the road in front of MacDonald's in SS2 had his gold chain snatched by Malay guys who came on 3 motorbikes. The one on the middle motorbike did the snatching.

June 27
Snatch theft incident at Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad 1, TTDI opposite Alliance Bank at  around 10 am.

Chinese man had part of his gold chain snatched, the other half dropped inside his shirt. Suspect Malay guys using 3 motorbikes, Yamaha 125Z. One of the motorbikes was black in colour, using false number plate.

Attempted snatch theft

March 13 -  Attempted snatch theft incident on 2 ladies going for their morning walk at Jalan SS20/16 yesterday morning. It happened at about 6:15am.

The Indian guys were on motorbikes and armed with a parang. They were described as big size and in their thirties.
