Celebrating Chinese New Year

RA SS20 Central celebrated Chinese New Year on 25 February 2018. There was an overwhelming turnout of about 150 people, comprising our residents, friends and neighbours from SS20 Northern and Southern Zones. Guests present included YB Tony Pua, YB Yeo Bee Yin, Councillor Jamaliah Jamaluddin, Inspector Shahrol and police personnel.

The highlight of the evening was the Lion Dance. A pair of lions brought blessings and happiness to the community for the coming year.

YB Yeo Bee Yin officially launched the "MySAFE Neighbourhood Campaign" for SS20 Central Zone. She had provided a grant for the installation of 2 Digital CCTVs for SS20 Central to complement the existing CCTVs.

The evening was indeed truly a great get together for the residents of SS20 Central.

A Plea to Dog Owners

I wake up bright and early in the morning on hearing the sound of chirping birds and walk out into the garden to smell the aromatic jasmine flowers. To my dismay on opening the gate I get a whiff of a dog poop at the end of the drive way. This is the usual dilemma of most residents living in SS20 Central. It is now common to see dog poop all over the side of the road and one has to be careful when alighting out of the car least they step on a dog poop.  Some of the side roads are so badly littered with dog poop that one has to very carefully maneuver their way when walking to avoid the poop.

A resident recounts that in his village it is usual to encounter dog poop everywhere as there are many dogs running around scavenging for food.  He expected it to be different in a city like Petaling Jaya, especially with mostly affluent residents staying in SS20 Central.  We cannot blame this on stray dogs as the Residents Association with the cooperation with MBPJ has rounded up as many as 15 dogs and taken them out of SS20 Central.

Even the children’s playing field is littered with dog poop. One may be sitting on a bench enjoying a quiet peaceful moment, only to realize much later that just beside the bench there is a dog poop. This would be extremely unpleasant and spoil the mood of the person for the whole day. By right dogs are not allowed in the field, but some residents bring their dogs to the field. Some dog owners allow their dogs to run around freely and they sometimes run into the field or overturn dustbins scavenging for food much to the annoyance of neighbours.

We are indeed appreciative of residents who walk their dogs on leash with plastic bags and a small shovel to scoop up the poop, as is practiced in developed countries. However these same dog owners allow the dogs on leash to urinate freely anywhere they like, even on plants specially planted outside the houses. These may be herbs planted to add flavour to the cooking, or pandan that many neighbours harvest the leaves to add aroma to their cakes. Dog owners should be careful and watch where the dogs urinate so that the neighbours’ plants are not contaminated.

These are some of the issues we would like to bring to the attention of dog owners so that there is some concerted effort in the control and management of dog poop. Some residents voiced the use of CCTV cameras to monitor the movement of dogs but it is better for dog owners themselves to realize the responsibilities of dog ownership and exercise some measure of control so that the neighbours are not annoyed. However, these CCTV footages can be retrieved, if required, as we have used them to monitor and identify crime.

Maybe with the planting of more trees bearing aromatic flowers in the future will help to drown the whiff of dog poop and urine. Let us smell the sweet jasmine and not the poop in SS20 Central.

Security Alert - Snatch Theft 13 July 2016

A snatch theft incident occurred on 13 July evening, about 7:15 pm on Road 20 near the junction with Road 21 close to the boom barrier.

A resident was walking along Road 20 when her bag was pulled from behind by a man wearing an orange motorcycle helmet with a dark visor. The man then escaped through the boom barrier into Road 21.

The attached 3 CCTV screenshots show the sequence of events. The man is thinly built, dark skinned, probably late teens or early twenties.

We have already provided some of these screenshots to the DU Police and will try and get some more clearer images. 

If our place was not barricaded, these guys on their motorbikes will be rounding in our area.

Please be always aware of your surroundings when you carry out your activities.I

 

 

Your Dog, You Clean

Dog waste carries harmful bacteria and these bacteria can be transmitted to humans and other animals when in contact with the dog waste or waste contaminated water.

One of our residents was annoyed when she returned home this morning to find the mess in front of her house. It was left by someone's dog let loose on the streets. Image was captured on Rd 16 camera.

Hope the dog owner / feeder of these 2 dogs take responsibility and keep the dogs leashed when they are out and clean up the mess left behind by his/her dogs. All of us want a clean and healthy environment in the neigbourhood. 

Security Alert - The intruder was a woman

At about 3:40 am, a woman entered Central Zone Road 13, probably from Road 11 between the houses and walked along Road 13 heading towards Road 12. This intruder was observed by our cctv to have successfully entered the porch of two houses.

In the second house, the intruder left her pair of sandals but stole a pair of ladies' shoes. The house owner discovered this incident in the morning. The shoe cupboard was left opened and an umbrella was also taken. She also changed her top from black to a pink coloured blouse/shirt

Before she entered our area, we observed from the cctv our guard doing their patrol. Also, earlier, the police patrol car was also going round our area.  

From this incident, we recommend that:  

1) you use a padlock to lock your auto-gate (or manual gate) at night. Auto-gates sometimes do not close properly; and

2) if you notice or encounter anyone (male or female) or anything suspicious, please call direct to the Damansara Utama Police station at 03-77222222. Ask them to send their MPV (Police cars) to investigate.

Shoes stolen in the Central Zone

2 cases of stolen shoes last week in the early hours of the morning. 

1) Road 16
2 pairs of men's shoes stolen from cabinet in the porch and Touch n Go card taken from the car. Car was not locked.

2) Road 13
16 pairs of leather and sports shoes stolen from shoe cabinet in the porch.

The security committee is reviewing the CCTV to try to identify the thief.
Please do not leave your expensive shoes outside the house.

G&G Update - August 2015

1. Four (4) CCTVs have been installed at the guardhouse area at Road 12 to capture images of vehicle number plate and driver entering Central Zone.

 

2. Two (2) extra speed humps installed at Road 12 to slow down vehicles entering Central Zone for security and safety purposes.

Private CCTVs to be linked to police control centres

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia will soon have tens of thousands of closed-circuit television (CCTVs) – all linked to state police contingents and Bukit Aman – to monitor all corners and alleys, ultimately to increase public safety.

Dubbed the “Safecam Partnership” initiative, the police are coming up with a better method to link privately owned CCTVs to their central command centre (CCC) in all states and police headquarters.

In line with the United Against Crime concept, the collaboration between the force and owners of private premises forms the biggest CCTV network in the country.  Read more

Robbery at handphone shop

KLANG: A video footage showing two parang-wielding men robbing a handphone shop in Bandar Puteri, Klang, here has gone viral on social media sites.

The 1.42-minute video recording from the shop’s CCTV showed the men threatening a female worker with parang before ransacking the store.

Midway through the video, a customer is seen walking into the store and fleeing immediately upon seeing the robbers.

Suresh Kalyenannan, 25, who is the store owner’s brother, uploaded the video at 2am yesterday to warn the public about the robbers.

He said the thieves even snatched a gold chain from the neck of the frightened shop assistant.

“They left scratches and red marks on Ana’s (the shop assistant) neck,” he said yesterday.

He added that a barber next door came to Ana’s aid when she heard her screaming but the robbers had already fled the scene by then.

“She is still shaken by the entire incident,” he said.

The two suspects had allegedly entered the store on the pretext of buying top-up phone cards.

The owner lost more than RM1,000 in the robbery.

The video was first shared on the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foun­dation (MCPF) Facebook page before being uploaded on YouTube.

The video on MCPF’s page received more than a hundred comments con­demning the act while some called for the police to act immediately.

South Klang police chief Asst Comm Mohamad Mat Yusop said police were currently studying the CCTV footage.

“We have launched a manhunt for the suspects,” he said.

Armed with info to fight crime

THE Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has embarked on a pilot project called the Electronic Sector or better known as (E-Sector) to help combat crime in Petaling Jaya neighbourhoods.

The project will see 24 police personnel gathering information from about 14,000 residents living in SS20, SS21 and SS22 Damansara.

Damansara police station OCS Mohd Isa Abdullah explained the details of the project to the residents recently.

He said the police would collect details such as residents’ identity card number, their vehicle registration, number of occupants in a house, and other relevant details.

He said the information gathered would be fed into an electronic system managed by the police.

The project involves three police officers put in charge of a residential zone, with the same officers conducting frequent checks in the area.

Mohd Isa said the E-Sector project would help the police to foster better ties with members of the community as well.     read more ,,,,,, 

Police seek help to tackle crime with CCTV

KOTA BARU: Police have sought the cooperation of 20 government and private agencies in the state to tackle crime via closed circuit television (CCTV).

Kelantan deputy police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said under the Safe Camprogramme launched last year by the Home Ministry, owners of premises with CCTVs could assist the police by letting them have the recording of crime incidents in their area.

“We called them today for a briefing on the Safe Cam programme before initiating a memorandum of understanding with them on crime prevention.

“Among the advantages of being in the programme is that police will be patrolling their area more frequently,” he said in conjunction with the briefing at the state police contingent headquarters here yesterday.

The Safe Cam programme is an initiative under the 1Aman-United Against Crime campaign listed in the government’s transformation programme to reduce crime. — Bernama

Suspicious guy taking photo

A man was seen taking photos of a house at Jalan SS20/16 at about 10:41 am on Wednesday, 14 Nov.

The man was wearing a white helmet and dark-coloured long pants and jacket.

The owner of the house has captured this on his CCTV and forwarded to the police.

Please call the police immediately if you happen to see anyone taking photos of your house or your neighbour's house.

Security Alert - 26 March 2011

At 11:09 am this morning, Saturday, 26 Mar 2011, an intruder, opened the gate of a house in Jalan SS20/14, walked in casually and locked the occupants inside the house with a padlock.

The owner of the house, his wife and maid were locked inside. On hearing footsteps, the wife saw the intruder searching the cabinet at the porch and alerted her husband. The intruder then casually walked out of the gate.

CCTV image showed the intruder to be a young, thin man with long hair and looked like an Indonesian. He was alone and came on a motorbike. He was wearing a white helmet and wore his blazer on the front (pls see picture).
